Amsterdam's mayor has reportedly changed his mind and allowed the city's upcoming Gay Pride festival to include a canal boat for 11 to 16 year-olds.

According to the ANP news agency, the mayor, Job Cohen, had blocked the plans in late January, saying it was too risky.

A 14-year-old Danny Hoekzema came up with the idea and has conducted an Internet campaign to drum up support for his campaign, and says he has already found around 10 participants for the 30-place boat.

Gay Pride organizers had said that it would be kept well away from more "provocative" boats parading along the Dutch's city's canals and that the youngsters would be joined by their parents on board.

Even as lawmakers across the nation debate legislation banning same-sex marriage, couples are uniting in weddings both miniature and massive, fueling a growing industry peddling everything from pink triangle invitations to same-sex cake toppers.

Vendors say attention to the marriage issue has encouraged more gay couples to recognize their relationships, though in most states, the ceremonies are purely sentimental.
?For the longest time, there was so much shame and privacy around it that people didn?t really give themselves permission to have ceremonies like this,? said Kathryn Hamm, an Arlington-based wedding consultant who planned McKee?s marriage to partner Nopadon Woods. ?(Now) the market is growing as the headlines remain out there.?

Unlike the multibillion dollar traditional wedding industry, experts say the gay wedding business is harder to track. Some estimates place its value at up to $1 billion.

In 2005, gays spent $7.2 million with vendors found at the Rainbow Wedding Network Web site, according to data collected by the site, which publishes a national magazine and hosts wedding expos. That?s up from $2.1 million in 2002, according to Cindy Sproul, who co-owns the North Carolina firm.

Marriage-minded gays and lesbians are purchasing basics like flowers and limousines. But vendors say couples also are spending on items with a same-sex twist: rainbow bejeweled rings, double-bride thank you cards and ?His and His? towel sets.

?We almost completely parallel what heterosexual couples are doing,? Sproul said. ?The only difference is there may be two grooms, or two brides.?

Sproul estimated gay couples spend about $20,000 on ceremonies in states offering some form of recognition, like Massachusetts and Vermont. But couples elsewhere also are investing: Sproul said couples average $15,000 on ceremonies in states that have banned gay marriage such as Georgia, where an annual wedding expo her company hosts draws about 500, mostly black gays and lesbians.

Vinyelle White and Madeline Jones of Richmond spent $4,000 ? a month?s worth of their combined income ? on their August ceremony, a homespun affair with handmade invitations.

?It may sound really stupid to say, but why not,? said White, who visited gay wedding Web sites before choosing an African-themed wedding. ?We?re showing this is how much we love each other, whether it?s legal or not.?

Moscow Mayor Yury Luzhkov said Monday he would never allow a gay parade to take place in Moscow despite pressure from the West, Russia’s RIA-Novosti news agency reports.

“Last year, Moscow came under unprecedented pressure to sanction the gay parade, which can be described in no other way than as Satanic,” Luzhkov said at the 15th Christmas educational readings in the Kremlin Palace.

“We did not let the parade take place then, and we are not going to allow it in the future,” said Luzhkov who has been in office since 1992.

The conservative 70-year-old mayor of the Russian capital also banned Portuguese bullfights in Moscow in 2001 for their violence and did not let the St. Petersburg-based rock group Leningrad perform in the city because of their explicit lyrics.

Luzhkov thanked the attending head of the Russian Orthodox Church, Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Alexy II, for his support at a time when, he said, the West is exerting considerable pressure on Mosc authorities and trying to promote gay relationships under the cover of creativity and freedom of expression.

“Religious thinkers throughout the world have said that the West has reached a crisis of faith. Some European nations bless single-sex marriages and introduce sexual guides in schools,” Luzhkov said. “Such things are a deadly moral poison for children.”

This is the second time Moscow authorities have banned a gay parade in Moscow. On May 26, 2006, a Moscow district court upheld a Moscow government resolution prohibiting a gay march, which was scheduled for the next day, as opposition to the planned event was strong in Russia, especially from the Russian Orthodox Church and other religious leaders.

Despite the ban, about 200 people took to the streets May 27 in an unsanctioned demonstration to mark the 13th anniversary of the decriminalization of homosexuality in Russia.

The attempt resulted in violent clashes between sexual minorities and their opponents — repreetatives of a number of political parties, religious and radical movements — and the detention of some 120 people from both sides, most of whom were later released.

A Christian street preacher is charging that the homosexual community in Chicago is guilty of hypocrisy because he was refused permission to march in a June 24 "gay" pride parade.

"I see this as nothing but hypocrisy," said Ruben Israel, who has been at the Chicago event for seven previous years, protesting the homosexual lifestyle choice from the sidewalks.

This year he sought permission to participate, and was refused. He followed up with a statement making the accusation.

"Is this not the same group that demands everyone accept them for who they are?

"Is this not the same group that cries discrimination, if not recognized?

"Is this not the same people that will not accept us for who we are?

"Is this not the same people that demand tolerance?

"Is this not the same group that wishes to walk in Macy's parade and [be] allowed in the 'Boy Scouts?" Israel asked.

Spokesman Richard Pfeiffer for the Chicago homosexual group confirmed to WND that Israel had been rejected.

"We, the gay folk, have the right to exclude them from the parade," Pfeiffer said, adding a U.S. Supreme Court decision gives his group the right to edit the opinions of groups that participate in a sponsored parade.

James Elsman, a lawyer working with Israel, said he wasn't so sure the Chicago homosexual group was correct in that interpretation, especially since Israel has been "participating" in the parade with his protests for a number of years already.

"I have advised Mr. Israel to sue Chicago Pride," he said. "It is my professional opinion that Christian ministers cannot be barred from the Chicago Gay Parade by the organizers…"

"The gays preach 'diversity & inclusion,' and they give unequal protection of the laws to Christians. These preachers want diversity and inclusion, which the gays do not," the lawyer said.

Israel told WND he got the wording for his expression of concern from documentation homosexual groups have used in the past to advocate for their demands of endorsement.

"We are a group that has a different sexual preference and being that this parade is filled with diversity, we considered ourselves welcomed," he said. "And we were wrong."

Israel said when the "gay" community is in a "leadership" position, "they … become dictators and force acceptance of their agenda. I wish to expose this hypocrisy as a double standard for we also love a man, too, and His name is Jesus Christ."

Israel told WND that he is just following the standards for making demands for acceptance set up by the "gay" organizations.

"Most Christians go to church on Sunday and all they know is the four walls of the church. The real world if these people ever take over will be more of a dictatorship. Freedom of speech no longer exists. Freedom of religion no longer exists," he said.

He said the rule of law would be: "You've offended me. I want to shut you down."

An earlier San Francisco Chronicle reporter noted while covering the participation by children with homosexual parents in an Easter Egg hunt in Washington that a Christian couple said their beliefs led them to believe children should be raised by a mother and a father.

Then the reporter noted in the next paragraph that "gay and lesbian families said they hope to change those attitudes…"
