GREATEST THREAT IS BAD DRIVING
BLAIR: GREATEST THREAT IS BAD DRIVING

By Bob Roberts, Deputy Political Editor 24/04/2007

BAD driving kills 1.2million people a year and is a bigger danger to the world than war or disease, Tony Blair said yesterday.

A thousand young people around the globe die every day in crashes and only Aids kills more young men. In the UK, 70 children are killed or seriously injured every week.

Oxfam says around a million have died in conflicts since 2001. The Prime Minister teamed up with ex-Formula 1 racing champion Michael Schumacher to call for action on the shocking death toll.

Mr Blair, speaking at the start of the UN global road safety week, said: "Every minute of every day a child is killed or seriously injured on the world's roads.

"Road crashes are the second leading cause of death for young men after HIV/Aids and in some African countries more than 70 per cent of those killed on the roads are young breadwinners. It is becoming clear that road injury has a serious impact on the wider development goals we're all trying to achieve."

Schumacher said: "Road crashes kill on the scale of malaria or tuberculosis."

Both men called for a UN conference to work out a strategy for cutting road deaths, which could involve British driving instructors being sent to the Third World to improve training.

Things Around You

Indeed, these are interesting times… for young and for old. The 21st century has been filled with Global this and Global that…. Record this and record that… like it or not… things are definitely on a different track now.

What can we make of it? It is the view here at FBF, that most of mans problems, are created by man himself! That’s right! Just a short read through history, and we see that written all over the place. No one does it to man, better than man does it to himself.

One thing we learn from history is… that man doesn’t learn! He does just what he wants to do! Give him some power and money and prosperity… and he thinks he’s a King!

To be sure… the corrective lies with man as well. We can, one by one, affect our world in a very clear way… for the good! It will never happen by itself… and no government can impose such a thing! That’s history as well.

We are all too familiar with what happens with man in free fall! Wars, poverty, deception, greed, corruption, class divides, and modern day slavery of all sorts… from sitting in commutes every morning and evening with white collars on … to having no way out in 3rd world nations.

My friend… you can do something about that… young or old!

Take a look at the grim reality of the Virginia Tech massacre…
Young people… what an indictment on your generation! This is not the first such ordeal... or the last! The scope and number may be wider than it has been… or is this just another ‘escalation!’

Let’s face some facts. There appears to be a huge double standard today… with the multi-Billion dollar industry of movie making built upon violence, murder, rape, adultery, cursing, drugs, and sex outside of marriage…and you pay money to see such things reinforced in your thinking! This then gets translated into the murder of children in the wombs of women… 6000 every day in America! Young people… this is your first born!

Oh yes, we have freedom… but not so much that consequences no longer exist! America, land of the Free and home of the brave! Really?! Do you honestly think that you can build and shop ‘til you drop! Do you really think that 5% of the world’s population can ‘devour’ fully ¼+ of all the worlds raw materials… without consequences? Wow! You really are an American!

Take a look at that thing called ‘rap!’ How raunchy and vile can you get?! Not to mention how demeaning it is to women, authority, government, and police protection, and all forms of decency! Just go to any 3rd world country, and see what life is like without police to enforce the laws every night when the sun goes down! Try wearing next to nothing in those places and see what happens! Many of you still live in the delusion of western thinking.

More facts for the campus culture: one out of 3 smoke mindless cigarettes… and you know that there is not one good thing about it! Just over the counter drugs… that make you a common drug addict… destroying your own health! Defiance ++! Every one today is a sex-spurt! Almost 80% of abortions ‘happen’ in your age grouping (16-26). In America, almost 4 out of every 10 births are now…’out of wedlock!’ By definition, we are producing a fatherless generation of bastards. (not a good choice) 40% still take no ‘precautions’ in their un-safe sex! Over 1700 a year die on campus of alcohol related pollutions!... bingeing etc. About 1200 a year will commit suicide. Fully 30% are diagnosed with mental instabilities…flagged mainly as ‘Depression!’ Most, who graduate from college will have a debt load of 30 to 85,000 dollars…(unless papa is paying the bill) …what a way to start life! And most remarkable is that 60% of all graduates will end up moving back ‘home’ with their parents or grand parents. Dear young person… that is your current generational norm. It is time to make a difference! Just imagine society with your generation 20-30 years from now! Who and what will you blame then?

This has been a short sweep of what we are calling a double standard folks!
Specifically, we are speaking to you young people! Our generation has stopped listening, and stopped growing for the most part.

But… you have the power and the potential to be real people, with a single standard that ‘dignifies’ life… not just in principle, but in daily PRACTICE!

For instance… take the campus culture! Must you go done as beer-bingeing, bra-busting brothels?! Talk about a double standard… by day, a ‘serious student’… by night and by week-end… quite another thing, generally speaking. You know your self, they don’t call you the X-Generation for nothing! Must you retain the label as the generation hell-bent on ‘annihilation!’

Virginia Tech was not just a one person problem… no, no! It was symptomatic of a much larger problem… within a culture that says: “You can have what ever you want, you can do what ever you want!” When it’s that easy to buy guns, and so much ‘freedom’ to spend endless hours and days on drugs, boos, popping pills, watching Hollywood lies, play those video games for countless hours that teach you ‘head shots’ and how to overcome the wickedness of killing people… pursuing meandering days of purposeless living, growing into fear, hatred, even anger… and out right vigilante rebellion! Wow! Look out!

You say it’s not new… but my friend, it’s getting worse! Much more brazen now, than ever.

Our appeal to you, is that YOU can reverse this trend! What your peer group is saying is COOL… is very Un-Cool! It’s time to pretend you really do matter in this culture! It’s time to take some responsibility that goes much farther than YOURSELF! It’s time to turn around a culture of self-extermination…. And speak with one voice to change those things in society that ails it! But that will never happen over night. It must become a life… a movement that gathers steam, as people begin to SEE the difference over years… then they may just take note… and follow your good example! The new, responsible status quo!

But, if you are a mere complainer, and a compromising double standing hypocrite… don’t blame the shooters, rapist, druggy thieves, corporate crime, the government, and other stockers in your life! You are helping them… when you maintain a double standard! That’s right… when you say nothing, and do nothing… you give them tacit approval! That is historical too. People are afraid to speak out, and declare what is right!

That’s why we say, this is an appeal to both young and old. But we are convinced you can do a major part in rebuilding what is so rebellious, and wanton! The longer selfishness reigns… the longer governments, corporations, businesses, schools and institutions will operate with ultimate greed and self preservation in mind! You already know, that mere words are not enough.

For instance…you think you’re so green! Take another look at the hypocrisy in your generation. How are the things made that you use every day? I-pods, computers, electric lights, rubber for your $100 sneakers, bike tires… and boots made with oil and leather hides! You really like your picture cell phone too! Along with that big flat screen TV/ computer/ and video game!

Still enjoying your sex outside of marriage? Yet you condemn those who are passing on aids, std’s, and unwanted children that stuff the orphanages and abortuaries with their own first and second born children!

Yes…our whole western culture is to blame… we have watched its downgrade in just one generation!

But again, our appeal is to the young people! You are not so entrenched into this ‘Modernity!” You can make a real difference! But, you must become unified in your direction. Just advocating and perpetuating thousands of different ‘styles of life’ won’t accomplish anything but a competitive spirit… why not consider the tenets of real peace making! Isn’t it time to try some of the things you never thought would hold value? Get outside your own human presuppositions and inclinations!

What is it that ails our societies? Sin! That is VIOLATION of all that is good, wholesome and godly. When we no longer believe that there are consequences to our actions… that only breeds ‘defiance! Anger! Anarchy! And Rebellion! And the collapse of once decent societies! Read your history. It’s happened too many time before! We are all responsible. Nobody has the luxury of ‘hiding out’ in 4-6 yrs of a secluded so called campus culture! For, one day that will all end… and you’ll get a job (hopefully) and get married (probably) unless you prefer your lawlessness in continuing to ‘Shack-Up… and have more children out of wedlock!’

But there we go again. Double standards! Rank denial! All leads to shallow rantings!
So, 10 years from now, when you are driving your SUV, and pushing your buttons on your garage door opener, TV/ Video / computer game/ and cell phone thing… ask yourself:
What have I contributed to? The ‘Status Quo’… or real change… from the heart!

You may have to be a revolutionary to change the tide of things… but, I believe your generation could do it… if you only believed yourself! And then applied… or committed yourself to doing it! But there is the crack in your generation! You don’t have what it takes to ‘follow through’ yet. Commitments are hard for you to keep. One day, you will realize that not much gets done without the value of keeping your word and commitments. Integrity is almost lost across the board in our 21st century. Yes… it will take a revolution of heart and character… for to change nations… men’s hearts must first change. WE are here to tell you… you can do it! But you will need help.

Jesus Christ was that kind of person! He taught a revolution of peace making… from the soul! To construct a culture of dignity, honor and purity in marriage… that would become one standard…like the 10 commandments that presents a moral code that blesses without hypocrisy, greed, selfishness… and fills life with purpose and direction… beyond this life… and into Eternity! Yes, you do have an Eternal soul!

Remember young people… whatever you put your hand to…. that life is shorter than you think… and Eternity is longer than you know right now. Why bring this up?
Reality! You will reap what you sow… more than what you sow… later than when you sow it. This principle works in every direction. It is meant for good… so Jesus taught.

That’s why we are confident in suggesting that your generation can constructively change things… but it will start with adopting a singe standard or moral code! We can’t all do our own thing anymore … like running red lights without hurting anyone! So… today… today, you can begin to dictate the very fruit you will be eating later in life… by what you do today. That will become a meaningful harvest for your tomorrow!

So remember that, the next time you wag your finger or wag your tongue towards the shooter, the rapist, the bum, the suicide bombers, and the home wreckers of our day.
We can all follow this course of ‘self-destruction’… or we can follow One who has led men from death into life! From perversity into purity…. from darkness… into light… from hatred and evil… into actual LOVE, peace and purpose… His name is Jesus Christ! He alone made a way for us all to live in Peace.

If we learn anything from this… may it be, that without meaning, there is no purpose… and without purpose >>>> there is no hope… and no life! Let us sow to the Truth while there is still precious time. It’s your life my friend. Think well upon it. It’s not too late.

Your Generation has some work to do.
We can work together.
We are available.

Do you want to turn around a generation of annihilation? You can not be part of the 'Silent Majority!' History shows that doing nothing... makes everything worse. Recent historical trends on campus are not good... and is not getting better.
